Groups are the fundamental building block of EarthCoop. Every meaningful activity on the platform — from having a conversation with your neighbours to co-investing in a continent-wide project — happens inside a group. When you complete your profile, the system automatically places you in groups that match your location and occupation, so you start collaborating immediately, without having to search for communities from scratch.

What Is a Group?

A group is a bounded space where a defined set of members can communicate, make collective decisions, and take economic action together. Groups are cooperative by design: every member has a voice, leadership roles are elected rather than appointed, and the tools available — chat, polls, elections, blogs, and investment projects — are built to support collective governance rather than individual broadcasting.

Group Types

EarthCoop organises groups along two dimensions: visibility and purpose.
Your profile determines which groups you are automatically matched to. When you set your occupation and address during registration, the system creates or assigns you to the relevant groups at each geographic level.

Geographic Levels

One of the distinctive features of EarthCoop is that groups are organised along a geographic hierarchy. This lets local decisions stay local while still connecting communities upward into larger cooperative structures. Members at lower levels (neighborhood, street) are automatically granted active status in their groups, meaning they can send messages and participate fully. Members joining groups at higher geographic levels start as observers and gain active rights as the community grows and elections take place.

What You Can Do Inside a Group

Groups are far more than chat rooms. Once you are a member, you have access to a full suite of collaborative tools:
  • Chat — Send real-time text messages, voice recordings, and file attachments to everyone in the group.
  • Threaded replies — Reply directly to a specific message to keep conversations organised.
  • Reactions — Express quick agreement or emotion by reacting to any message with an emoji.
  • Blog posts — Publish longer-form articles or announcements to the group’s shared feed.
  • Polls — Create time-limited polls — including anonymous and multiple-choice formats — to gather consensus on any question.
  • Elections — Run transparent democratic elections to choose group managers and inspectors.
  • Investment projects — Collaborate on economic activity through the Najm Bahar financial module.
  • AI assistant (Najm Hoda) — Use the built-in group assistant to summarise activity, draft polls, and guide decision-making.
